lyrics

Scarlet walked up the stairs to her apartment. She unlocked it with her key and stepped in. She didn't take her shoes off in her home because she had so much shit flung on her floor she knew walking around barefoot would probably mean ringworm. Her apartment was incredibly under-furnished and only had two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a living room. Inside her living room was a couch that she picked up off the side of the road, scrubbed out and with a clean blanket tossed over it so it wasn't too gross, a tv that she stole from her old workplace when she quit which was connected to a PS3 she won off of Kijiji. Garbage, bongs and various other improv pipes used to smoke pot out of were lined up on the coffee table she found outside by the building's dumpster.

Inside her own bedroom there was clothes and trash was scattered everywhere, a mattress which was an upgrade from the air mattress she was using before she splurged on a twin mattress, was on the floor and was made neatly like an actual bed. The bedspread was a generic checkered pattern, not anything badass and punk like Scarlet would've wanted, although she got the bedspread through last years Secret Santa event at work. The only things in Scarlet's room that she completely paid for were the clothes around her bed. Millions of tutu's, black petticoat skirts, ripped tank tops and pants were scattered around the room, the only thing that was hanging up on her wall with a coathanger was a very special dress that was made by somebody who wasn't particularly special to her.

Her other bedroom was used as a guest bedroom where she kept her air mattress. She dubbed it the "cool down room" since the only times it has ever been used was when co-workers came over to hang out and they'd party a little too hard or bring their own kinds of party favors and were having a bad trip.

Inside the kitchen, there wasn't anything special. She had a microwave she had bought from a moving sale, a toaster that had been there since she moved in and a fridge that was almost completely empty. If she really wanted to, she could have completely advanced her life by still embracing being a Starling. She could simply use her incredible power to make many things in her life easier but chose to almost completely shift into being not just a Wishing, but a human being. When dishes needed to be done or she needed to touch something particularly gross, Scarlet would use her levitation powers.

Scarlet walked into her living room and crashed on the couch. She let out a hard sigh and let herself sink deeper into the blankets and cushion. Her eyes stared up at the rugged ceiling, still looking up as if the stars were there. Her StarZap was still in her pocket, so she decided to open it up since it was hooked to her TV and she could use it like an extremely advanced remote control. She clicked the little button that appeared on the levitating hologram that was lighting up her dim house.

The TV turned on to reveal her PS3's main screen. She grabbed the controller off the floor and also grabbed her grinder that was full of marijuana that she always had on her table. She put on NetFlix and absent-mindedly clicked on Human Centipede with extremely low expectations. After smoking the right amount of weed she fell asleep on the couch.

She had a dream about living on the moon, most of her dreams seemed to take place in space. In her dream, she was the Duchess of the moon and she needed to decide whether or not basketball would be the moons national sport.

Then she awoke. She looked down at her own body, seeing if she fell asleep in her daytime clothes, which would determine if she had extra time to sleep or not. She saw her lowcut, shoulderless shirt with a puffy skirt and tight jeans combo. She decided that would be fine, and took the extra time to try and collect her thoughts before getting up. She lazily looked around her room, her TV had turned itself off throughout the night and the clock was reading 5 minutes before work started. Boots slamming on the floor, she quickly stood up and skateboarded to work.

When Scarlet finally got to work, she was extremely winded. She quickly scurried to her locker on the back side of the bar and shoved her skateboard in there and pulled her apron out of it.

"Scarlet," she heard her manager behind her, "you're needed up front."

Scarlet was still tying on her apron and panting very hard. She knew she wasn't late, so she was ready to argue against being in trouble just in case he decides to start yelling at her. "You got it," she called back and walked past him quickly. She trotted quickly to behind the bar. Besides her was a coworker who also worked as a bartender and would often take the same shifts as her, although she didn't know their name. He was having a conversation with some woman who was sitting across from him.

"Can I smoke in here?", the lady asked, "If you can't smoke in here that's okay, I can smoke out back but I'd rather in here. I see you have fans in here, but y'know that doesn't really affect anything unless there is a window open."

Scarlet recognized that voice, she remembered the voice with less anxiety and more confidence, but she recognized it. The way nearly pointless facts were being forced into the conversation, the way the enthusiasm shifted abruptly in her tone when saying the fact vs asking a question. She looked over and examined the woman, studying her features and mannerisms.

She had short hair that was black with a blue streak in it. Under big blue eyes, Scarlet could see dark circles. The lady looked very pale, almost as if she was cold and was wearing clothes that Scarlet would usually wear to go to bed. "No smoking allowed, sorry." the coworker said. "Oh, okay, that's fine, y'know second-hand smoke is a killer, so it makes sense." There was no denying who this was anymore.

"Vega?" Scarlet asked.

"Scarlet?" Vega replied.

"I'm going on my smoke break." Scarlet abruptly said, gesturing to Vega to go outside and join her.
