Piper Summoning Spirits

lyrics

"Wow, are you really a Starling reborn?"

"...."

"Yes! I knew it! You know what?"

"...."

"I knew there was a deeper reason behind you. When I look at you, I see the center of the universe," Fathomous juggled oranges and spoke to Baby Clover as she sat on the grass in a large meadow of orange trees. The other Starlings of the cult were picking the oranges and placing them in large baskets. Piper had explained that this is how the civilization makes money. These rare, exotic oranges were tied in with various perfume companies.

"Everything is always rotating, you see, and I think you might be what everything is rotating around." Fathomous dropped all the oranges and reached down, picking Baby Clover up and holding her in front of the sun. She stayed stone-faced, looking at her new surroundings. "The axis is you, the earth is revolving around you, all the planets and stars, and everything farther and farther."

"Okay, the earth rotates the sun, Baby Clover," Vega corrected as she helped pick the oranges off of the trees with her levitation powers, "the moon orbits the earth, but that's it. It rotates the earth every 27 days. Some think it's actually been doing that almost as long as the earth has been here." She began to levitate the oranges in front of Baby Clover's face to try and give her a visualization of the planets rotating. Baby Clover was now being held in front of Fathomous like she was some kind of doll, but she didn't seem to mind as she was being entertained by these rotating orbs.

"There are a few theories on where the moon comes from. A very supported theory in the scientific community is that when the earth was new, something hit it and broke a huge chunk off it," Vega clenched her glowing hand together and made part of the levitating orange break off and start spinning around it, "and that's why we have a moon. Just one permanent satellite."

"I see... Oh!" Fathomous lifted her up again, in front of the sun to give the illusion of her glowing, "So Baby Clover is the moon!"

"What?! No! That's not at all what I'm--"

"She is a Starling reborn, she is a piece of Adult Clover!" Fathomous announced while spinning Baby Clover around.

"Wh- Her name was just "Clover" okay?" Vega snapped, not wanting anyone to disrespect an old, departed friend. Fathomous was oblivious to Vega's anger, as he continued to spin around with the young baby in his arms, laughing and cheering about celestial bodies.

Across the shrubbery, Scarlet (along with every other literal human) was up a latter, picking a few oranges by hand and putting them in a large burlap sack flung over her shoulder. Piper walked bellow her, using her powers to remove 20 oranges at a time and move them to a large barrel in the middle of the meadow. Scarlet and Piper were a little farther from everyone else, only by a few trees. But Piper had a way of making every conversation seem very personal and private.

Scarlet watched from the corner of her eye as Piper, and her other friends so willfully showed their Starling powers. It amazed her that nobody else was as freaked out as her. It was almost as if everyone in this cult of beleiving they're Starlings, believed they were Starlings. Piper sung to herself as she picked the fruit from the trees. It only now was dawning on Scarlet that Piper hadn't asked why they were here yet.

Neither did Vega or Libby. Libby was too supportive of a friend to deny Scarlet anything, and Vega just seemed to kind of come along with them. Even Scarlet couldn't pinpoint exactly why she thought talking to Piper would ease her conscience about Vivica. She tried her best to remember that night if Vivica's death really was her fault. She also began to wonder if maybe those shadows were just a drug-induced hallucination, and not Vivica's demon coming from hell to terrorize her. Still, she couldn't shake the feeling that there was some closure that was needed between them.

"Hey, uh, Piper," Scarlet spoke just loud enough for Piper to hear. She calmly turned herself around to face Scarlet, even though it she was facing Scarlet's back "Yes?".

"I was wondering about... death," Scarlet muttered, "um, if you do something very bad, how bad is the afterlife?"

Deep inside, Piper was confused, but on the outside, she was calm and elegant. She walked towards Scarlet but said nothing, awaiting Scarlet to begin rambling.

"Vivica... Isn't coming to see you anymore," Scarlet muttered, hoping that would probe Piper to say something about feeling Vivica's spirit pass into heaven, or maybe pass over to hell. Only Piper didn't respond, so Scarlet felt the need to keep talking.

"Actually I don't think she's going anywhere anymore, y'know? So... Vivica wasn't that bad was she?" Scarlet turned around and started walking down the latter, "I mean, she was a total cunt, but she wasn't the worst right?"

Scarlet began absent-mindedly walking towards the giant barrel in the middle of the shrubbery. Piper followed and listened as Scarlet kept rambling, "I keep thinking, maybe if things were different maybe she'd be somewhere better, or not even somewhere else at all, y'know? Or maybe even..." Scarlet began to space out now.

She slowly stopped walking and turned back to Piper, "Piper... Lady Stella... was she the worst?" Piper answered by raising her eyebrow at such a statement. Scarlet instantly turned back around and kept walking, "Ugh! No way, Lady Stella must have seen all that negativity in Vivica, why else would she have always taken our side? We were the heroes! The Star Darlings!"

Scarlet angrily tossed her oranges into the barrel and began stomping back to where they originally were. Without realizing it, Scarlet was starting to glow a bitter red. "Did you know she actually bullied Cassie? Cassie! Not even I can be bitter at that girl for too long... But then again..." she remembered what she was told about what Cassie is now. Some kind of vegetable.

"...Oh my god," she turned to Piper, "Did Lady Stella really save any of us?"

Piper sighed, walked towards Scarlet and began to glow a soft blue. It clashed with Scarlet's red and it became a beautiful violet. Piper closed her eyes and sighed. Scarlet stayed waiting for a response.

"Vivica stands by an ocean in a floppy sun hat."

"What?"

"Clover is sitting in a car, driving with the windows down. She's smiling at me and handing me a Hershey Kiss." Piper turned and began to lift her hands, which glowed brighter, making multiple oranges fall from the trees. She closed her eyes again and seemed to focus on things other than the fruit floating across the air, "I see Gemma as Alex, he is practicing using his body and has found comfort with other men."

She then turned back to Scarlet, eyes open, "And Vivica stands by an ocean in a floppy sun hat. It was today. She never mentioned your name."

"...And where is Lady Stella?" Scarlet asked while nervously shuffling her hands together, "Would... she... mention my name? There are things I think I need to ask her..."

"Well! Let's ask her tomorrow evening." Piper said with a smile. Scarlet slowly nodded and went back to picking oranges.
