lyrics

"So Scarlet's having a meltdown," Libby announced in an awkwardly motherly optimistic tone. Vega blew out some smoke before coughing a little bit at what Libby just said. "Is she okay?" Vega asked between coughs. "She will be," Libby said with confidence and she walked towards the open window to avoid too much second-hand smoke. She gazed out the window smiling while admiring the twinkling stars.

"It's kind of like having a huge crush on someone you never have a chance with," Libby explained while keeping her eyes on the sky, "The stars being so far away."

"I was thinking about that the other day," Vega replied, "how we're so far away from it all now."

"Riding planes instead of shooting stars, how to Wishlings do it," Libby said with a laugh. She spun around, making the beautiful silk nightdress she had on sprawl out. "What do you think?" Libby asked, "I bought it just for this trip!" Vega nodded, she couldn't vocally tell her she liked the dress while sucking smoke into her lungs. Libby then lifted her head as if reacting to something, then Vega heard an extremely delayed crying come from Scarlet's spare room.

"Here, let me take this," Libby said with a smile as she lifted her hands, making them glow and lift up the two empty plates on Scarlet's table. They floated down the hallway with her as she trotted to the spare bedroom. The plates kept going down the hall and into the kitchen as Libby turned into the room she was staying in.

Libby had made up the room as nicely as she could with the things she brought with her in her millions of suitcases. The smaller baby was lying, crying in one of Scarlet's laundry baskets that were filled with clean pillows with a blanket put over it. The other infant, who seemed to be only a few months older than her sister was sleeping in some sort of fold out baby crib.

Libby leaned down quickly and picked her daughter up into her arms, holding her close and shushing her so she wouldn't bother Scarlet during her meltdown. "Are you sad about your Auntie Scarlet?" Libby asked the small child in her arms. Of course, the baby replied with loud shrieks. Libby sat down on the air mattress on the floor and pulled the straps of her nightdress down and pulled her dress down enough to expose her right breast.

She lifted the hand that wasn't around her baby and it glowed a soft light, lifting a breast pump full of formula out of one of the bags stacked around the mattress. By linking the output of the pump to her own breast, she put the babies mouth to the nipple and began to feed her. As Libby couldn't produce milk herself, she did what she could to simulate the classic bonding experience of mother and child. The small baby admired its mothers face as it sucked at the synthetic nipple.

The bathroom door opened and a zombie Scarlet stumbled out. Her eyes able to focus, but her steps were strangely careful. The Ambien was on the verge of kicking in and she decided that she should just go to bed. She noticed the door to the cooldown room was open and thought about walking over to see what was up. Then suddenly she was there, in the doorway, looking as Libby fed her adopted child.

"Oh, hello! Does this make you uncomfortable?" Libby asked, noticing Scarlet in the doorway. "Oh, no man... A boob is a boob." Scarlet said, awkwardly rubbing the back of her neck. Suddenly the other small child in the room started to fuss, the ruckus seemed to wake her up. "Would you get her? She'll calm down when you pick her up." Libby asked while bouncing the baby she was already holding in her arms. Scarlet shifted side to side, not really wanting to touch the baby but at the same time wanting the annoying whining to stop.

"Fine," Scarlet said, rolling her eyes and walking as straight as she could towards the tiny fold out crib. The infant looked up at Scarlet expectantly and it reminded her of when the little brat tricked her into taking that block earlier. "Sure she's not like, afraid of me or something?" Scarlet asked, almost trying to find a way to get out of it. "She loves everyone!" Libby replied.

Scarlet sighed and reached down, slowly picking up the child so she was lying upon her upper body. She almost instantly stopped her whining and put her small arms up and wrapped them around Scarlet's neck. Scarlet let out an awkward "Uhhhh... whoa?" which made Libby chuckled into her free hand. "You're very good with her," Libby explained. "I'm not really doing anything" Scarlet muttered, trying her best not to look like a total idiot when it came to babies.

"I walked out earlier and it wasn't cool." Scarlet suddenly blurted out, "And when you came and asked if I was okay I yelled at you and... that also wasn't cool."

"That's okay," Libby said with the same motherly smile she's had on since she arrived at Scarlet's home. Scarlet's mind scrambled a bit and she felt the strange need to explain further. She twitched her mouth around as if trying to speak but couldn't say anything, mainly because she couldn't think anything. The baby in Scarlet's arms started to stir a little and almost started sitting up. Scarlet wasn't sure what to do, so she let it. It looked around the room with its sleepy eyes.

Then it looked at Scarlet, making them both freeze. The baby simply looked at Scarlet with a thousand yard stare, almost as if waiting for her to do something. Scarlet looked back at it the same way only waiting for it to throw up or shit itself. Instead, she stayed trapped in eye contact with this human baby girl she had hoisted up onto her hip. It slowly occurred to Scarlet that she was holding a miracle of life, another Wishling, another human who will walk the streets one day. Then the baby smiled and without realizing it, Scarlet was smiling too. In reaction to Scarlet's rare, genuine grin, the babies smile grew bigger and it let out a loud shriek that shattered Scarlet's eardrums; instantly taking her out of the intimate trance.

Libby laughed at the scene, "The world looks very different from Aunt Scarlet's view, doesn't it, Clover?" she asked happily smiling at her daughter. She sung a lullaby...

If I can't hear you
You don't need me but
I can hear you now
If I could hold you
Just for a little while
I'd like to hold you now
If you are dreaming
About me
I'd like to hold you there too
