A Final Kannon For Lady Stella

from Lament For Lady Stella(Book Soundtrack) by Adora

lyrics

Everybody was holding hands besides Scarlet, who was hanging back pretty far. Vega was wearing a dark green hoodie that she was planning to sleep in, along with a pair of sweatpants that were hanging way to low on her hips. Libby had on a pretty pink nightdress with an even prettier, warm pullover. Scarlet wished she had a chance to put on something before leaving but Piper was insistent on everybody getting to the top of the hill as soon as possible.

Scarlet didn't know exactly what Piper was planning to do up there. She smiled to herself wondering what would happen if she jumped off the cliff they were headed to and how everybody would freak out. That's when she realized just how high she was. "So what was it you wanted to show us?" Vega's annoying voice started to bring Scarlet down. She jogged a bit to catch up.

"Something beautiful~" Piper hummed. Vega quickly shut her mouth and started walking faster. "Better be pretty damn beautiful, I have a bus in the morning..." Libby laughed, Scarlet didn't know why so she assumed it was just an inside joke. A moment ago, Piper and Scarlet were discussing Lady Stella, that was the best Scarlet could remember right now. As the four girls walked up the hill, Scarlet couldn't help but notice the shadows. All the blacks and oranges from the trees around them mixed with the rising sun in a way that made the scenery look... calming. It was a familiar feeling. With every step, the shadows began to disappear and light began to flood Scarlet's vision. As Scarlet took her last few steps, she covered her eyes from the blinding sun. The shine was beyond anything Scarlet could remember seeing before.

Once her eyes got used to the light, she lowered her hands. Her eyes began to focus, and there she was. Standing in her brilliance, looking even more majestic than ever. Nobody said anything, but everyone got the same feeling. Lady Stella. The warmth, the glow, the fact that everything on WishWorld just seemed so still and calm in her presence. An authority over WishWorld that's so okay with just being there, making things grow, always being there both before and after the darkness.

Vega's lip quivered, staring at this "something beautiful" in front of her. She felt if anybody would have something prepared to say it would be her. But she wasn't prepared for this, and instead of explaining anything, or pointing out why a sunrise is normal, Vega kept her mouth shut. She knew everybody understood enough already.

Scarlet felt her eyes start to hurt so she looked away and happened to look in the direction of Piper. Piper was looking back at her with an expecting smile. Whether it was some Starling power or Pipers own psychic ability's Scarlet almost instantly knew what Piper was waiting for. Scarlet reluctantly reached into her pocket and took out her Star Zap. She opened it one more time, soaking in the glow of the holographic screen and taking a moment to ask herself if she was ready for this or not.

Then she threw it. Overhand over the side of the cliff in the direction of the light. It was an attempt to throw it back to Starland, but of course, it only got flung 10 feet off the side of the cliff. Scarlet cringed as she heard the impact of it hitting the ground and immediately thought of all the pictures on there and if somebody found it. She then felt Libby's hand in hers, but they didn't look at each other.

They all walked back down the hill like that, each with their hands intertwined with the other. Nobody spoke as everyone was too lost in their own thoughts and interpretations of what Piper was trying to tell them. Yet when they all reached the bottom of the hill they all let go of each other's hands. Libby went to the main temple and packed her things while Vega and Scarlet did the same.

Everybody in the cult gave the three girls a heart filled, hug-filled goodbye. Nobody was upset because they were all very adamant about the fact "that this is just one lifetime and they're destined to meet again" Libby drove Vega to the nearest bus stop and let her off. Scarlet got out of the car and gave Vega a hug. It didn't last long, only about three seconds but it weirdly meant a lot to Libby seeing this. They waved and watched Vega get on the bus before Libby turned to Scarlet.

She took Scarlet's hand in hers and placed a credit card on the palm of her hand. "What's this?" Scarlet asked. "It's how you're going to pay rent at this nice little apartment in Montreal until you get a job." Libby replied as they got into the rented car.

"Libby, I can't-" Scarlet tried to protest, but Libby quickly shushed her. "Too late, the movers are already putting in the new furniture I had ordered for you." Libby smiled.

"...Thank you." Scarlet said quietly, too overwhelmed to have a big reaction. Scarlet sat in the passenger seat as Libby brought her to her new home, Scarlet stared out her window at the sky and said nothing else. During the days of driving, Libby didn't talk much to Scarlet, but she still gave her a hug before leaving. As Scarlet watched Libby drive away, she looked up at the setting sun. Watching it sink down behind the hills and the sky slowly begin to get peppered with stars, she let her go, turned around and entered her new home on Earth.
