A Day With Baby Clover

lyrics

Since they arrived at Piper's civilization, Libby hasn't had to pick Baby Clover back up. It was as if the entire cult immediately adopted the small child the moment they saw her. Libby was trusting, so trusting in fact, that Libby had gone multiple hours leaving Baby Clover in the loving, overly passionate hands of the cult members. She believed with her whole heart Baby Clover was safe. And she was.

Safely in the hands of a woman who was holding her over a sandy cliff. "Do you smell the air, baby?" The woman asked. Baby Clover awkwardly looked down over the small civilization. A few feet directly under the cliff appeared to be a small trail leading out of the shrubbery. The actual magnitude of the place didn't impact Baby Clover that much, so she stayed stone-faced.

"When I was a dragon, this is how I saw the world!" She threw Baby Clover up in the air to try and simulate flying for her. While in the air, Baby Clover squealed with joy. She caught Baby Clover again over the edge of the cliff. "Every day, baby!" She threw her in the air again, Baby Clover squealed and she caught her again. Baby Clover has never actually listened to a single thing these people have said but enjoyed how literally and figuratively colorful they all were. Even now, this strange neon green, feminine, loud, blob seemed to be spouting nonsense and all Baby Clover needed was the attention. "When I see a dragon, I would fly close to the -" only this time when she threw Baby Clover into the air she didn't catch her. "Whoops!" The woman cried as Baby Clover dropped down from between her hands. The woman almost got worried but remembered the time she fell off a cliff in space and was fine, also it was in the past and time to move on.

Bellow the cliff, Fathomous was walking. He heard a noise come from above and opened his arms, expecting some sort of celestial being to land in his arms. Instead, he caught a disoriented Baby Clover. "Oh! Baby, I'm glad I bumped into you. " he held Baby Clover out with extended arms, "could you lend me your ear? I'm feeling lonely, you see. " Baby Clover looked around at her new surroundings. She then looked to Fathomous, a character she's grown to like, so she let him know she was glad to see him too with a shriek. Fathomous put Baby Clover on his hip and started to walk and talk.

"You know, Baby, I think you're the only one here who could hear me out. You see, I used to casually visit Neptune during a past life cycle. I was a unicorn and I grew in my space mother's uterus for millions of years," Baby Clover examined the way Fathomous's mouth moved as he spoke to her, "I remember hearing her muffled talk in that warm, dark red tomb. I was there for every moment of her life for all those years. The first time I saw the light was when she exposed herself to someone. A light came in and I thought it was the most beautiful thing ever. I swore I'd always have light around me. And yet, when I'm sad, all I feel is darkness. "

He held Baby Clover out at arm's length, "What do you do when your world is a dark red tomb, Baby?" Baby Clover watched how his mouth was moving and let out a garbled mess of gibberish as she tried to talk back. Fathomous frowned, "That's not really the advice I asked for, that actually kind of invalidates a lot of what we've said to each other as friends," he put Baby Clover down on the ground beside the trail, "I'm going to have to take a break from this talk, Baby. I'm not mad, it's just not what I'm in the mood for right now." Fathomous then walked away leaving the infant child alone sitting by the dirt path.

She looked up at the tall orange trees and fell back on the grass. She lay there for a while, simply waiting to be picked up. A bird flew by... some clouds looked kinda like her mom... some oranges fell... Then she heard footsteps approaching, so she started crying to get their attention. "Oh, hello, Clover. " Baby Clover was lifted into the arms of Piper, "How did you get here?" Baby Clover didn't answer and simply stopped crying and looked back at Piper. She then looked at Piper's hair and started tugging on it because it was pretty. Piper didn't seem to even notice the pain of getting her hair tugged at and she walked with Baby Clover down the path.

"What's it like being reborn?" Piper asked, honestly expecting to hear Clover answer her through the child. In all honesty, if anybody was going to actually hear anything from this baby it was Piper. She had the ability to speak to the dead through willpower, why not through a vessel that is so universally accepted to hold the soul of the late Clover? She didn't hear anything though, and simply put Baby Clover on her hip and kept going about the shrubbery using her Starling powers to pick tens of oranges at once. She waved her hands and spoke to the late Clover through Baby Clover, aware that if Clover wasn't in this baby, she'd at least be in the hearing distance now that her name was spoken.

"I need to confide in you, Clover," Piper spoke, "I saw Vivica in the afterlife, but she told me some things about the night of her death. It didn't happen as Scarlet told me in confidence. She was awake when Scarlet put her on the side of the road. She was much angrier than I displayed. She holds no grudges, but... I feel like Scarlet needs to solve this for herself." She looked at the child in her arms, "What should I do, Baby?"

Baby Clover tugged at Piper's hair a few more times. "Tough love? Yes! I will host the next soul journey circle will be tonight and invite my old friends! Oh thank you for the advice, Baby!" she lifted Baby Clover into the air with her positive wish energy and happily danced around with Baby Clover spinning in the air with her. Piper got a little lost in her happy dancing, and Baby Clover started to levitate with the oranges towards the giant wheel barrel in the middle of the orange meadow. She was placed on top of the pile of oranges and stayed laying amongst them. Once again she sat, awaiting somebody to come pick her up. Only instead of being lifted, she realized that what she was sitting on was now moving.

She let out a loud scream as that was usually what got her picked up. "Yes?" She heard a female voice and the wheel barrel stopped moving. Baby Clover screamed again. "I don't think that would be a good idea." The woman replied and continued to walk with the wheel barrel, assuming this scream was coming from the barrel of oranges itself, "if you don't get turned into juices and perfume, you'll just rot.... Do you want to hear me sing!?" The woman's voice changed from a speaking tone to a series of melodies that made Baby Clover feel calm. The woman was singing some kind of soft opera, which included more harmonizing than words. Baby Clover watched the clouds move above her live a giant mobile. The comforting melodies mixed with the relaxing scenery caused Baby Clover to slowly fall asleep.

She awoke an unrecordable amount of time later in a completely different place. She was lying on a pile of blankets in a dark room being lit by only candles. She looked around herself on the floor to see what appeared to be offerings. Small amounts of food, a couple quarters, some sage that was snuffed out. The room itself seemed to be set up as some kind of shrine for her. Unbenounced to her, when she was found asleep in the orange pile a neon green woman claimed she was more than likely dead. So they put her in a special room and set a shrine for her to ask the space gods to bring her back to life.

The door to the room was opened and she saw Vega, Piper, Scarlet then her mom walk in, followed by multiple cult members. Baby Clover screamed and crawled towards her mother. Libby squat down and opened her arms for her child to come to her and the two embraced. "Where have you been?" Libby asked her before giving her a kiss on the cheek before another pretend Starling immidiately asked to hold Baby Clover. Libby handed her back over and joined the large circle of Starlings forming in the middle of the room.
